PERRY COUNTY, Ohio (AVC News) — The Perry County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving callers who are pretending to be sheriff’s deputies.
Several residents have reported receiving phone calls from people claiming to be deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, scammers are telling victims they have an active warrant for their arrest and must either turn themselves in immediately or pay a fee to avoid being arrested.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that it will never call to demand money or payment of any kind and does not collect fines or fees over the phone.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call should not provide personal or financial information and should not send money or gift cards.
Residents who are unsure about a call or want to verify contact from law enforcement should hang up and contact the Perry County Sheriff’s Office directly at 740-342-4123.
Officials are encouraging residents to share the warning with friends, family members and others in the community to help prevent anyone from falling victim to the scam.
