CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (AVC News) — OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center will host a free breast cancer awareness lunch and learn Oct. 19, providing community members with information about breast cancer prevention, screenings, treatment options and local resources.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Morrison, Amos and Deddish Conference Rooms inside the main hospital entrance, across from the information desk.
Baidehi Maiti, MD, a medical oncologist at Southeastern Medical Center, and Rebekah Wever, MD, a general surgeon, will present information on breast health and the importance of early detection. Each physician will give a presentation followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Topics will include breast cancer screening and early detection, risk factors, breast self-awareness and self-exams, prevention and risk-reduction strategies, treatment options, and genetic risk factors and testing.
“Breast cancer awareness and education play a critical role in helping people make informed decisions about their health,” Maiti said. “This event provides an opportunity for members of our community to learn from experts, ask questions and better understand the steps they can take to reduce risk and detect breast cancer early.”
The event is open to community members, volunteers and Southeastern Medical Center associates. Attendance is limited to 40 participants, and advance registration is required.
A complimentary light lunch and desserts will be provided for registered attendees. Mammogram scheduling also will be available at the event.
To reserve a seat, call the John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Cancer Center at 740-439-2771 or email Ashley.Fehrman@ohiohealth.com.
