GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio (AVC News) — A semi-tanker carrying highly flammable isopropanol overturned Tuesday on Slaughter Hill Road in Guernsey County, prompting a hazardous materials response and sending the driver to a Columbus hospital.
According to information from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Robert Simpson of Smyrna, Georgia, was driving the tanker and tow when he failed to negotiate a curve on Slaughter Hill Road and overturned.
The tanker began leaking isopropanol, an extremely flammable material, prompting a hazardous materials response involving the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
Simpson was pinned underneath the cab of the semi. Cambridge Fire and EMS personnel, along with Lloyd’s Towing, worked to extricate him from the vehicle.
Simpson was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
A portion of Slaughter Hill Road remains closed while crews continue working at the scene. Signs have been posted to alert motorists to the closure.
The incident remains under investigation.
