Darrell G. Scott, 51 of Zanesville

Darrell Scott, age 51 gained his wings in the arms of his devoted wife on September 11, 2026.

Darrell lived with two dreams close to his heart: to fly, and to love someone completely that would love him just as deeply in return. He was fortunate enough to see both dreams come true. He experienced the freedom of flight and, more importantly, knew the profound joy of giving and receiving a love that was wholehearted and true.

Darrell grew up in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He graduated from Delta State University and earned his first set of wings. He commissioned into the Air Force as a navigator and deployed during the Global War on Terrorism. He transferred to the 121 Air Refueling Wing in 2005 to become a KC-135 Aircraft Commander. He retired in 2018 with 10 deployments in 16 countries and 4895 flying hours. Darrell continued his outstanding aviation career with over a decade as a Southwest Airlines Captain.

If Darrell wasn’t flying in the clouds, he was in the outdoors fishing or hiking with his wife or hunting with his friends. His playful personality and quiet magnetism naturally drew people to his side. He was an active member of the Philo United Methodist Church.

Fly high until we meet again.

Celebrations of Darrell’s life will be held in both Ohio and Mississippi. The dates and times for these gatherings will be announced at a later date.

A memorial service will also be held at Philo United Methodist Church. Details regarding the date and time will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
