COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) – Ohio is honoring key emergency crewmembers August 15 with Emergency Management Recognition Day.
The day recognizes the professionals in the state who work year-round to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters.
Emergency managers are an integral part of coordination between emergency crews and the public during disasters in the state.
“In Ohio, we are fortunate to have 88 county Emergency Management Agencies staffed by trained professionals,” said Sima Merick, executive director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. “Their essential and behind the scenes work often goes unseen, and August 15th is dedicated to recognizing their service.”
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency encourages Ohioans to support emergency preparedness throughout the month of August by:
- Learning about local hazards and how to prepare for them
- Signing up for emergency alerts
- Creating or updating a family emergency plan
- Building or refreshing emergency supply kits
