ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — Gus Macker basketball is officially returning to Zanesville next summer.
The Gus Macker Zanesville 2027 tournament is scheduled for July 10–11, 2027, at the Ohio University Zanesville, Zane State College and YMCA campus.
The return follows more than a year of planning, community partnerships and sponsorship development. Organizers say the event will focus on the theme “Building Community Through Basketball,” with an emphasis on bringing families and communities together while creating opportunities for local organizations and businesses.
The organizing committee, led by Executive Chair Dominique Proctor, has secured more than $42,000 in sponsorship commitments and is developing partnerships with education, healthcare, business, nonprofit and community organizations.
Organizers are now launching what they call the “Road to 250,” with a goal of attracting 250 teams to Zanesville for the two-day 3-on-3 tournament.
The committee is seeking teams from throughout Central, Southeast and Eastern Ohio, including communities such as Columbus, Newark, Cambridge, Coshocton, Marietta, Athens and New Lexington.
Organizers also say the tournament is expected to bring players, families, spectators and visitors to the Zanesville area while providing opportunities for local businesses, volunteers and nonprofit organizations to participate.
The committee is developing additional initiatives aimed at reducing financial barriers for young players and creating opportunities for youth throughout the region.
An official community announcement is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2026. Additional information about registration, volunteering, community involvement and tournament activities will be released as planning continues.
The 2027 Gus Macker tournament is scheduled for July 10–11 at the Ohio University Zanesville, Zane State College and YMCA campus in Zanesville.
