James Randall Powell, 72 of Zanesville

James Randall Powell, 72, of Zanesville, died at 12:06 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Altercare of Zanesville. He was born December 23, 1952, in Zanesville, a son of the late James Edward and Rheta (Bash) Powell. Randy was a member of the La Fayette Lodge No. 79, F&AM and was a life member of the Amrou Grotto in Zanesville. He retired from Longaberger, was an avid NASCAR fan, especially watching Dale Earnhardt and would often dress up as Santa for the holidays for family, friends and during Christmas parties at the Amrou Grotto. But above all, what meant the most to Randy was his family and being a papaw to his granddaughters.
Surviving are his son, Eric (Darlene) Powell; his granddaughters, Abigail Powell and Jessica (Lane Stires) Powell; a brother, Keith (Judy) Powell; a sister, Lori (Tom) Van Horn; a sister in law, Marlene Mack; and numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Ann (Hayes) Powell, who died June 22, 2025.
