CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (AVC News) — The Cambridge Kiwanis Club Foundation has awarded $500,000 in grants to eight area nonprofit organizations, bringing the foundation’s total contributions to the community to approximately $2.3 million since its creation in 1994.
The foundation was established after the Cambridge Kiwanis Club received a bequest from the estate of Mary Witten with a focus on supporting youth and organizations serving the local community.
The foundation’s original board members were Bill Hartley, attorney Richard Baker, Kari Burke and Don Huston. Several Kiwanis Club members have served on the foundation board over the years, with current board members including Nathan Larrick, Rick Long, Gary Spring, Sharon George, Bob Heinton and Huston.
The latest grants include $20,000 each to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Hospice of Guernsey, Boy Scouts of America Muskingum Valley Council and LifeWise East Muskingum; $30,000 to First Christian Church; $60,000 to LifeWise Guernsey; $80,000 to Guernsey County Children Services; and $250,000 to the Cambridge YMCA.
Following the distribution of the grants, the foundation plans to transfer $1.3 million to the Guernsey County Foundation. The Cambridge Kiwanis Club and its foundation thanked the community for its support over the years.
