How to Apply: FEMA Assistance Available In Seven Ohio Counties

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — Ohio homeowners and renters in seven counties, including Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties, may be eligible for FEMA assistance following uninsured damage from the August storms, tornadoes and flooding.

FEMA assistance is available to eligible residents in Clermont, Franklin, Hamilton, Licking, Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties who experienced damage to their primary home, personal property losses or disaster-related emergency needs.

Residents with homeowners, renters or flood insurance should first file an insurance claim before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits provided by insurance, but residents may qualify for federal assistance if their insurance does not cover all disaster-related expenses.

FEMA may provide assistance for displacement, serious needs, temporary lodging, basic home repairs, personal property losses and other uninsured disaster-caused expenses.

The fastest way to apply is online through DisasterAssistance.gov. Spanish-language assistance is available through DisasterAssistance.gov/es.

Applicants should be prepared to provide contact information, their Social Security number, a general list of damage and losses, annual household income and banking information if they choose direct deposit. Those with insurance should also provide their policy number or insurance agent or company information.

Residents needing help can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 for assistance in multiple languages. Those who use a relay service, captioned telephone or another service should provide FEMA with the number for that service.

An accessible video explaining the application process is also available through FEMA’s “What You Need to Know Before Applying for FEMA Assistance” resource.
