WASHINGTON, D.C.-(AVC News)–In results unexpected by many, the month of August was a good one for job growth across the country.
The US added 162,000 jobs last month, according to recent government data. That’s more than triple the number that many economists predicted.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that non-farm emplyment increased by 162,000 in August, with the national unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%.
According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.3% in August, down from 3.4% in July.
State employers added a modest 2,100 nonagricultural jobs over the month, with construction and private education seeing some of the highest growth.
The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in August was 195,000, down from July’s 200,000, while the number of unemployed has decreased by 66,000 over the past 12 months.

Highest Rates: Trumbull County at 5.1%
Among the Lowest Rates: Lorain (1.8) , Cuyahoga (1.9), and Geauga (1.5) and Medina (1.5) Counties

And while hiring usually picks up at the start of fall, September can also be a time for cooling off. According to a Bloomberg report, economists expect Friday’s report to show the US economy added about 90,000 jobs in September.
