ROSEVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — The Roseville Volunteer Fire Department has launched a new Water Rescue Team to strengthen its response to floods, swift water rescues and other water-related emergencies.
Department officials say the specialized team was created through a combination of grant funding and community donations. The six-member team includes Chief Ed Guy, Assistant Chief Michael Sowers, Executive Officer Zach Keylor, Capt. J.T. Roberts, firefighter Michael Bell and firefighter Chris Yeager.
Roseville and surrounding communities regularly experience flooding throughout the year. While firefighters have previously responded with limited equipment, officials said the department has worked since the beginning of 2026 to establish a fully equipped water rescue unit.
Donations from the Newton American Legion in Fultonham and the Zanesville Eagles made it possible for the department to purchase a water rescue boat and trailer.
In addition, a grant from The Energy Cooperative funded the purchase of specialized water rescue suits, throw bags and ropes, and a SKED rescue stretcher designed for rapid patient evacuation.
The department said team members are actively training and preparing to respond to emergencies throughout the community and surrounding areas.
Officials called the new Water Rescue Team a major step forward in protecting residents during floods, ice rescues and other water emergencies, thanking local organizations and community supporters for helping make the project possible.
