COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to 38 law enforcement agencies and local governments to help communities connect overdose survivors with addiction treatment and recovery services.
The funding comes through the Attorney General’s Drug Abuse Response Team, or DART, grant program and will support activities through June 30, 2027.
Among the recipients are several agencies and organizations serving Southeast and East Central Ohio.
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $38,880, while the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office’s PORT program received $50,000.
The Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office received $69,626, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $100,000.
The Pike County Probation Department received $46,865, while the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $56,381.
The South-Central Ohio Major Crimes Unit, through Project FORT, received $88,936.
The DART grants are designed to help communities establish or expand specialized teams that bring together local law enforcement and behavioral health providers.
Those teams provide 24-hour assistance to overdose survivors and their families, including connections to immediate treatment, recovery services and other resources intended to reduce the risk of future overdoses.
“Overdose survivors need urgent, hands-on support to break the cycle of addiction,” Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said. “These grants empower local law enforcement and healthcare partners to meet people where they are in their most vulnerable moments and guide them toward lasting recovery.”
For fiscal year 2027, individual grants range from $20,280 to $149,037.
The Attorney General’s Office supplemented $1.5 million in General Assembly funding with $1 million in settlement funds to increase the amount available through this year’s program.
The DART program was established in 2017 and is administered by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
Many of this year’s grant recipients have previously received DART funding.
