COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife is accepting submissions for its 18th annual Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp photo contest, which will determine the image featured on the 2027 stamp.
This year’s contest theme is “Mammals” and is open to Ohio residents age 18 and older. Photos must feature an Ohio mammal other than white-tailed deer and must be taken in Ohio. Submissions are due by Tuesday, Sept. 15. Entries will be judged on originality, composition, technical excellence and overall beauty. The winner is expected to be announced this fall, with the 2027 stamp going on sale in March.
The 2026 Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp features a killdeer photographed by Jennifer Beck of Lyndhurst. Beck previously won the contest in 2022 with a photograph of a bald eagle and eaglet. The $15 legacy stamp includes a collectible stamp and commemorative card, and stamp holders can receive discounts at nine Ohio state park lodges.
Proceeds from the Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp support wildlife conservation, with most funding directed toward species of greatest conservation need. The Division of Wildlife also donates $1 from each stamp sold to the Southern Wings program, which protects overwintering habitat for Neotropical migratory birds. Remaining proceeds support the Wildlife Diversity Fund, which finances habitat restoration, research, educational materials and conservation efforts for endangered and threatened species.
