COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio officials have announced $14 million in grants to support workforce housing projects in 10 counties.
Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced the awards Friday through the second round of the Residential Economic Development District, or REDD, program. The program provides grants to help communities expand housing near major economic development projects.
The REDD program was created through House Bill 96, which was signed into law by DeWine last year. The program has $25 million allocated in total, with more than $9 million awarded during the first round in March. Up to $15 million is available for grants during the current fiscal year.
The City of Heath in Licking County will receive $1 million to support its planned Central Park development. The project calls for 1,958 workforce housing units, including 1,228 units reserved for residents earning at or below 75% of the area median income. The development is intended to help meet housing demand created by major Central Ohio investments, including projects by Amgen and Illuminate USA.
