COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Muskingum County Local Emergency Planning Committee has been awarded $8,808.33 through the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio’s annual hazardous materials training grant program.
The PUCO announced Wednesday that it awarded a total of $800,000 in grants to 43 applicants across Ohio to support training for emergency responders who may respond to hazardous materials incidents.
PUCO Chair Jenifer French said the grants are intended to help emergency responders prepare to handle hazardous materials incidents safely and effectively.
“By investing in hazardous materials training, these grants will help ensure thousands of emergency responders across Ohio are prepared to respond quickly, safely and effectively when incidents occur,” French said.
The annual grant program provides funding to educational institutions and local governments for hazardous materials training and planning.
The Muskingum County LEPC was among the recipients, receiving $8,808.33.
Other grants included $400,000 for Cleveland State University, $40,000 each for Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and the University of Findlay, and $17,350 for the Hamilton County LEPC.
Tuscarawas County LEPC received $14,250, while Pickaway County Emergency Management Agency received $5,950.
The 43 grant recipients received varying amounts based on their approved applications, with the funding supporting hazardous materials training for emergency responders throughout Ohio.
The PUCO’s finding and order for the grant awards is available through the commission’s Docketing Information System under case No. 26-96-TR-UNC.
