ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — Local, state and federal leaders highlighted Muskingum County’s recent economic momentum and future development during the inaugural State of the County Luncheon.
Hosted with support from North Valley Bank, the event focused on economic development, infrastructure improvements and public-private partnerships driving growth throughout the county.
U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson praised county leaders for positioning Muskingum County as an attractive location for business investment and job creation.
Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director Eric Reed highlighted major accomplishments, including new job creation, business park improvements and expanded rail infrastructure designed to attract additional industry.
County Commissioner Melissa Bell pointed to investments in public safety, infrastructure and economic development, including major water and sewer projects and continued residential growth across the county.
Zanesville Mayor Don Mason emphasized the importance of cooperation between city, county and state leaders, crediting those partnerships with advancing housing, infrastructure and quality-of-life projects.
Officials said 281 new housing units are expected to be developed in Muskingum County during 2026. They also highlighted the Community Improvement Corporation’s redevelopment of 20 condemned properties, which generated an average return of about $60,000 per property.
Among recent community investments, Chaffin Park received $500,000 in renovations, Gant Baseball Park underwent $900,000 in upgrades, and the $6.5 million Confluence Park project continues to transform the city’s riverfront.
City leaders also discussed plans to redevelop the former 2200 Linden Avenue property while continuing efforts to attract new businesses and entertainment venues downtown.
The Muskingum County Community Foundation also noted it has returned more than $37 million to community projects since its founding in 1985.
