ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — August is being recognized as Child Support Awareness Month, highlighting the role financial and emotional support plays in helping children and families.
The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office and the Muskingum County Child Support Enforcement Agency work together to establish and enforce child support orders in the county.
According to Prosecutor Ron Welch, the Muskingum County Child Support Enforcement Agency has collected and distributed nearly $1 million to 27,000 residents for the benefit of children throughout Muskingum County.
“Child support enforcement is about far more than collecting payments—it is about ensuring that children have the stability, security, and opportunities they deserve,” Welch said.
The Prosecutor’s Office also has a child support division that provides legal assistance to the agency when enforcement is necessary.
Officials said the goal is to encourage consistent support and secure the best possible outcome for children.
Child support can help cover everyday needs including food, housing, clothing, health care and education. Parents experiencing changes in employment, income or other circumstances are encouraged to seek assistance before unpaid support begins to accumulate.
The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office is recognizing parents who consistently support their children as well as child support professionals who work to ensure children receive the support they need.
