CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (AVC News) — Eighth-grade students at Cambridge Middle School got a hands-on look at potential careers in the healthcare field Wednesday as the COSI HIVE Workforce Roadshow visited the school.
The Human Innovation Experience, or HIVE, Workforce Roadshow features interactive stations designed to introduce students to careers in healthcare, manufacturing and technology. Wednesday’s visit focused on healthcare opportunities.
Students participated in activities involving wounds, germs and heart rate, along with a virtual reality experience that allowed them to travel through the human body.

Cambridge Career Exploration teacher Tamara Gibson said the hands-on activities allow students to learn more about the types of work associated with different careers while also discovering what they may or may not enjoy.
“At each station they take notes about the careers they learn about, and the activities they liked and didn’t like,” Gibson said. “It’s important to understand what activities they don’t like so they can know the types of careers they should avoid.”
Volunteers from OhioHealth, the City of Cambridge and local veterans helped students with the activities and shared their own experiences. OhioHealth and Ohio Life Science partner with COSI to bring the programs to communities.
Cambridge City Schools officials said exposing students to different career opportunities as they progress through school can help them identify possible career paths and give them additional motivation in their studies.
“It’s exciting because they are getting hands-on experience,” Gibson said.
