COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin have announced $20.7 million in grants to expand access to high-performing public community schools across the state.
The funding includes $6.4 million through the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter Schools Program Grant. Four schools will use the funding to expand existing educational models or establish new schools.
“The foundation to effective school-family partnerships is making sure families have access to the educational environment that works best for their child,” said Director Dackin. “Today’s announcement is an important step to ensuring families have a voice in their child’s education, and giving more students the opportunity to explore, discover, and embark on a path to a successful future.”
Another nine community schools will receive a combined $14.3 million through Charter School Facilities Incentive Grants. The funding will support facility upgrades and expansions.
The grants are part of a five-year, $100 million initiative that will be distributed through three competitive funding rounds. The U.S. Department of Education announced plans for the initiative during a visit to Ohio by U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon last September.
