COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 12 deaths in 12 fatal crashes during the four-day Labor Day weekend reporting period.
The reporting period began at midnight Sept. 4 and ended at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 7.
According to preliminary OSHP statistics, at least one of the fatal crashes was OVI-related. Troopers made 426 arrests for impaired driving and 70 drug-related arrests during the holiday period.
Of the fatal crashes in which a safety belt was available, one person was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers issued 2,136 seat belt citations during the reporting period.
Troopers also responded to 502 crashes, issued 1,525 citations for distracted driving and assisted 1,563 motorists.
OSHP is encouraging motorists to report dangerous or impaired drivers and suspected drug activity by calling #677.
