David A. Casteel, 79 of Newcomerstown

David A. Casteel, 79 of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026 at his residence.

David was born December 25, 1946, in Newcomerstown to the late William M. and Mary E. (King) Casteel. David graduated from Port Washington High School in 1964, and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. On October 5, 1968 he married Jean (Mathers). He attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Port Washington. David was a member of the Newcomerstown Honor Guard, and was a member of the VFW for serving in Vietnam. He loved Western movies with John Wayne, and enjoyed square dancing. He and his wife Jean enjoyed traveling, whether it was by bus, car, or motorcycle, and they visited every state in the US except for Alaska. He was also a proud member of the NRA.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years Jean (Mathers) Casteel; his children David (Kimberly) Casteel II, and Jennifer (Robert) Moffett; his grandchildren Christopher (Sarah) Barnett, Emily Moffett, Haley (Nick Fisanik) Moffett, and Carter Casteel; his great-granddaughter Gracelynn Barnett; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings Kenneth (Katie) Casteel, Richard (Dorothy) Casteel, Robert (Gerry) Casteel, Clyde (Gladys) Casteel, Doris (Phil) Smith, and his infant siblings Elsie, Jessie, and Mary Carol.

A visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Services and Burial 

A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor James Shamel officiating. David will be laid to rest in Hartwood Cemetery.
