COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Ohio High School Athletic Association and its six District Athletic Boards have awarded $198,000 in scholarships to 198 recent high school graduates through the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program.
Each recipient was selected by a committee within one of the OHSAA’s six athletic districts and received a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past three years, the OHSAA has awarded $598,000 to graduating seniors through the program. The $200,000 awarded in both 2024 and 2025 were the highest totals in the program’s 32-year history.
In addition to the scholarships, the OHSAA distributed $1,250 to each of its member high schools, totaling $1.02 million. The funding comes from the Athletic Enrichment Fund, established in 2023 to help schools cover athletic department expenses, including equipment, uniforms, transportation and officials, as well as efforts to improve student sportsmanship and adult fan behavior.
OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said the scholarship recipients represent the organization’s goals for education-based athletics. Recipients were selected using a point system that considers grade-point average, class rank, community service, varsity letters and individual and team athletic honors. Students receiving athletic scholarships from NCAA Division I or II schools or appointments to military academies were not eligible.
