CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (AVC News) — The Cambridge City School District is reporting a smooth start to the 2026-27 school year, with Superintendent Dan Coffman telling the Board of Education that students and families are settling into their routines.
Coffman made the comments during the board’s August meeting Wednesday evening at the Garfield Administrative Center.
“We are open for the 2026-2027 school year and so far, everything is going well,” Coffman said. “Our staggered start has worked well and our families are beginning to settle into the school-day routine.”
Coffman said the beginning of a school year can be hectic as students, families and staff learn or relearn procedures and routines.
“We always have a few changes that create some challenges as we try to improve our procedures,” Coffman said. “As we move forward, students and families learn routines and that contributes to the success of our students.”
Speed Cameras Operating Near Schools
Coffman reminded residents that speed cameras near district campuses and the Primary School are operating now that classes are back in session.
He said the cameras have helped slow traffic during student arrival and dismissal times.
“The speed cameras have been successful in slowing down traffic during our arrival and dismissal times helping to keep our children safe,” Coffman said. “We want to remind drivers to remain alert especially in school zones and near bus stops.”
Coffman also recognized the district’s maintenance and custodial crews, along with summer employees, for preparing school buildings for the new year.
Several projects were completed in addition to routine floor waxing, painting and cleaning.
Board Approves District Agreements
The board approved the designation of Treasurer Ed Wright to attend required public records training approved by the Ohio Attorney General.
Board members also approved the district’s required financial forecast for submission to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, an agreement with the Ohio Department of Higher Education for the Direct Admission Data Sharing Program, and a transportation agreement with East Guernsey, Rolling Hills and Noble Local school districts.
The board also approved a contract for health care services with Maxim Healthcare Services Inc.
Personnel Actions
The board approved Ashley Hargreaves as a cook; Jacqueline Stillions and Tatiana Netting as educational aides; Stephanie Pollock as a bus driver; Cristal White as the Kindergarten Readiness Bootcamp bus driver; Jill Adams as a substitute summer cook; and Silas Hutchison as a substitute custodian.
Julie Bishop, Grace Feldner, Megan Goggin, Tatiana Netting, Cheryl Edwards, Abby Fitzgerald, Ashley Hargreaves and Gracen Kinnan were approved as substitute classified workers.
Extended service hours were approved for Nathan Wright, Peter Messer, Aaron Beatty, Logan McCort, Kitrina Dubose, Mary Rich, Kaylee Lenarz, Sarah Finnicum and Samantha James.
The board also accepted resignations from Teresa Hammond, Kenneth Moore, Megan Bonnell, Jennifer Ware, April Castello and Matthew Frasca.
An unpaid leave of absence was approved for Karen Theodosopoulos, while medical leaves of absence were approved for Kylie Kiner and Evelyn Taylor.
Limited teacher contracts were approved for Trudi Hardcastle, Anna Ross and Tayler Wolford. Julie Bishop, Tatiana Netting, Megan Goggin, Griffen Stephen, Gracen Kinnan, Olivia Perkins, Brianne Scott and Tayler Wolford were approved as substitute teachers.
Kitrina Dubose was approved as director of the 21st Century Community Learning Center After School Program. Pippa Mikes, Olivia Critster and Aurora Miller were approved as site coordinators.
The board also approved supplemental Literacy Leadership Team contracts for Angela Hayhust, Amy Miller, Mary Cae Abrams, Jodi Neff, Jill Clay, Michelle Johnston, Kurt Ware, Danielle Eubanks and Jennifer Lorenz.
Certified staff were approved for payment for professional development training.
Athletics
In athletics, Jennifer Miller and Qwenyth Jefferis were approved as middle school volleyball coaches.
Peter Messer was approved as an assistant football and basketball coach.
The board also approved Paul Ayres, Myranda Allen, Kathie Baier, Sean Byerly, John Charlton, Tom Hannon, Logan McCort, Bob Mascolino, Stacy Mathews, Pippa Mikes, Stacy Phillips, Bob Shepard, Ray Sims, Kevin Smith and Kim Valentine as athletic support personnel.
The next Cambridge City Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Garfield Administrative Center.
