NELSONVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is accepting applications for 2026 grants through the Ora E. Anderson Conservation Fund for Appalachian Ohio.
The grants are available to public and nonprofit organizations, as well as groups working under a fiscal sponsorship with a nonprofit or public organization.
Funding will support conservation projects across Appalachian Ohio’s 32 counties, with an emphasis on watershed restoration, sustainable forest practices, and programs promoting the region’s cultural and environmental history.
Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The fund was established in 2007 in honor of naturalist Ora “Andy” Anderson, a longtime conservation advocate in Appalachian Ohio.
Anderson served as president of the Ohio Forestry Association and board chair of The Nature Conservancy in Ohio. He also helped establish nature preserves and advised public officials and conservation advocates.
Anderson died 20 years ago this week and was later inducted into the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Hall of Fame, the state’s highest conservation honor.
