COSHOCTON, Ohio (AVC News) — The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new transparency policy governing its use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader technology.
The sheriff’s office says the policy is intended to give the public more information about how the technology is used, including its purpose, authorized uses, data access, retention periods and privacy safeguards.
Through an online transparency portal, residents can also view information about the sheriff’s office’s ALPR data-retention period, system usage statistics, general search categories, camera locations, agency data-sharing, policies and safeguards.
The portal also includes examples of cases in which automated license plate reader technology has assisted law enforcement.
Sheriff Christopher Walters said the policy reflects the department’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible use of technology while maintaining public safety.
