COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding commercial drivers, construction haulers and companies transporting materials to properly secure their loads before traveling.
The Patrol says troopers are seeing an increase in incidents involving debris falling from trucks and trailers during the summer construction and back-to-school seasons.
Unsecured loads can create dangerous roadway conditions, including flying debris and sudden obstacles that can leave other drivers with little time to react.
Even small objects, such as rocks or loose materials, can damage vehicles, impair visibility or contribute to crashes.
Lieutenant Jacob Landis of the Patrol’s Licensing and Commercial Standards section says properly securing a load is not only a regulatory requirement, but a responsibility to everyone sharing the road.
OSHP is encouraging operators to inspect trucks, trailers and equipment before every trip, including checking that load covers are in place, tie-downs are secure and materials are properly contained.
Troopers will continue monitoring commercial traffic statewide and enforcing violations involving unsecured loads, roadway debris and equipment safety.
