NEWARK, Ohio (AVC News) — Two people have been arrested after Licking County sheriff’s deputies investigated a burglary involving a safe and stolen firearms Thursday evening.
The Licking County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 5:53 p.m. Aug. 27 to a reported burglary, safe-cracking and theft of firearms at a residence on Mt. Vernon Road in Newton Township.
Deputies and detectives identified Hydie L. Woltz of Newark as a person of interest in the investigation. Detectives located Woltz at a residence on High Street in Newark, where she was detained and interviewed.
During the investigation, Woltz told detectives her nephew, Aden Ginnery, had recently taken possession of the stolen firearms. She said Ginnery had left the residence in a black Ford SUV and might be headed toward Muskingum County.
Licking County detectives notified law enforcement agencies in Muskingum County and requested assistance in locating the vehicle.
Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office deputies later located the SUV in Zanesville and conducted a traffic stop. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of the stolen firearms and magazines, which were collected as evidence.
Woltz and Ginnery were arrested and transported to the Licking County Justice Center.
Woltz faces charges of burglary, safe-cracking and theft of firearms. Ginnery was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges will be presented to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The Licking County Sheriff’s Office credited the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in locating the vehicle and recovering the stolen firearms.
