McCONNELLSVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — Long-term recovery efforts are underway following recent flooding in Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties, with local organizations coordinating resources and assistance for affected residents.
A Long-Term Recovery Committee is being formed to bring together local organizations, agencies, nonprofits, faith groups, businesses and other community partners to coordinate ongoing recovery efforts and address unmet needs.
Organizers said long-term recovery can take months or even years as communities and residents work to establish a new normal. The committee will help address needs while residents await potential assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency or the state, as well as needs that remain after those programs begin.
Many of the organizations involved have already been assisting with short-term recovery efforts and are expected to continue working together through the long-term recovery process.
Job and Family Services offices in Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties also are assisting eligible households affected by the flooding with vouchers and other support services.
The voucher programs can help residents meet immediate needs, including some residents who typically would not qualify for assistance programs. Available vouchers and eligibility requirements vary by county. The effort to provide additional emergency relief was led by state Sen. Tim Schaffer.
Residents affected by flooding should contact their local Job and Family Services office before visiting to confirm eligibility, required documents and voucher availability.
Morgan County residents can contact Morgan County Job and Family Services at 740-962-4616. The office is located at 155 E. Main St., Room 009, in McConnelsville and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Muskingum County residents can contact Muskingum County Job and Family Services at 740-454-0161. The office is located at 445 Woodlawn Ave. in Zanesville and is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Perry County residents can contact Perry County Job and Family Services at 740-345-3551. The office is located at 5250 State Route 37 East in New Lexington and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents who need assistance and have not already connected with a participating organization, or who are unsure where to begin, can call 2-1-1 to be connected with local services, recovery resources and support.
