John E. Buckey, 88 of Newcomerstown

John E. Buckey, 88, of Newcomerstown, passed away peaceful on Friday October 23, 2026 at Park Village in New Philadelphia with his loving daughter, Jackie, by his side.  

John was born on November 29, 1937 in Cambridge, OH to the late George and Rosa (Saultz) Buckey.  John graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1955.  After graduation, he enrolled at Ohio Business College before enlisting in the Armed Services.  He honorably served in the United States Army  from 1960 to 1962 where he was stationed in Germany post-World War II.  In 1969, he married Carol Jean Hootman, who passed away in
1994.  John was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and a proud member of the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, and the Lion’s Club all of Newcomerstown.  John volunteered for Hospice and loved spending time outdoors specifically enjoying fly fishing, biking, kayaking, and walking.  He relished regular morning visits to McDonald’s to hang out with an eclectic group of retirees, who enjoyed coffee, and, in his words, made up stories and solved world problems.  Above all, he was immensely proud of his grandchildren who were the light of his life and brought him immense joy.  He very much enjoyed watching them compete in athletic events and celebrating their many accomplishments.

John is survived by his children Jacquie (Greg) Triplett and John J. (Kevin Marshall) Buckey; his grandchildren Reagan, Jackson, and Reese Triplett; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol Jean Buckey; and his siblings Patricia Haver and Pauline Cox Helt.

A visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday October 25, 2026.  A funeral service will take place at Christ Methodist Church of Newcomerstown on Monday October 26 at 10:30am with Pastor Bracken Foster officiating.  John will be interred in the West Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of John E. Buckey.
