NEW CONCORD, Ohio (AVC News) — The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds will combine music and visual art during a free concert Nov. 1 at Muskingum University.
“Music and Your Mind’s Eye: An Art & Music Collaboration” begins at 3 p.m. in Brown Chapel on campus.
The concert features original abstract paintings created by Muskingum University art and design students who listened to music being prepared by the Symphonic Winds. Students were not told the titles of the pieces or the composers’ inspirations, allowing them to create artwork based entirely on their own interpretations of the music.
Following the performance, the student artists will speak with audience members about their creative process and how the music influenced their work.
The paintings will be available through a silent auction, with all proceeds supporting Muskingum University’s Art and Design and Music programs.
The concert is free and open to the public, though donations will be accepted.
The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds includes local professional and amateur musicians, along with Muskingum University students, faculty and staff. The group is directed by David Turrill, associate professor of music and director of bands at the university.
