CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (AVC News) — A Cambridge High School Career Navigator discussed her plans to help students succeed after high school during a recent school board meeting.
Natalie Hugebeck, career navigator at Cambridge High School, spoke to board members during the district’s Sept. 24 meeting at the Garfield Administrative Center. She said her role is to connect students with opportunities and resources while helping them determine their goals after graduation.
Hugebeck highlighted four “Es” that guide her work: Enroll, Enlist and Employ, which represent broad pathways students can pursue after graduation, and Explore, which helps students determine which path is right for them. She connects students with colleges, employers, trade programs, military representatives and community organizations to help them learn about different career options.
Students can meet with college representatives at the high school and college fairs, as well as visit campuses. Hugebeck also helps students and parents navigate college applications and financial aid. For students interested in entering the workforce, she helps arrange job shadows, apprenticeships, internships and tours of local businesses and manufacturing facilities. She also assists students with resumes, job applications and interview preparation.
Hugebeck coordinates military recruiter visits and maintains relationships with local business leaders through economic and workforce development meetings. In other business, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with School Smiles Group to provide voluntary portable onsite dental services for students and approved several personnel changes.
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Garfield Administrative Center.
