LICKING COUNTY, Ohio (AVC News) — The Licking County Sheriff’s Office has recovered approximately $1.2 million worth of material reported stolen from Refined Catalyst Solutions in Hebron following a multi-state investigation involving the FBI and law enforcement agencies from multiple states.
The investigation began after a scrap yard in Bensenville, Illinois, contacted authorities with information about a suspect attempting to sell material believed to be connected to the theft.
Working with federal investigators, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office arranged a controlled purchase that was conducted by the FBI Chicago Field Office.
The operation resulted in the recovery of the stolen material and provided investigators with additional leads in the case.
Two suspects were taken into federal custody. The Licking County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the theft remains ongoing and that it intends to pursue appropriate criminal charges.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation demonstrates the importance of information sharing and cooperation among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies across state lines.
