Opera House Players to Present Vietnam Veterans Tribute Play in New Lexington

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio (AVC News) — The Opera House Players will present a play honoring Vietnam veterans Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Perry County Cultural Arts Center in New Lexington.

The 1 p.m. performance of The Wall: A Pilgrimage will take place at 447 S. Main St. The 50-minute, one-act play, written by Jan Stuckey, follows a family traveling to Washington, D.C., to see the name of a loved one on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Director Betsy Martin said the production is intended to honor veterans as the country approaches its 250th anniversary. Martin said the Vietnam War and events surrounding it, including protests and the 1970 shootings at Kent State University, affected many people in her generation.

The production also will recognize local veterans who lost their lives in Vietnam.

Admission is free for veterans and their families. Veterans attending will have an opportunity to participate in door-prize drawings.

Local businesses are donating food for lunch, including pizza, salad, desserts and beverages. A silent auction also is planned.

The cast includes Maryann Headley as the mother, Parker Adams as the brother, Julie Scott as the wife, Addison Scott as the daughter, Dave Brehm as the father and Mike Fulk as the soldier. Robin Pickenpaugh will assist with lighting and sound.
