BARNESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — Drivers and residents should expect multiple road closures and parking restrictions in Barnesville as the village prepares for the 62nd Annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Sept. 24-27.
The four-day festival will feature rides and games, crafts and concessions, contests, live entertainment, food, shopping and other fall activities.
Festival attractions and shopping opportunities include local downtown businesses, the Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Peddlers, Pumpkin Market, Pumpkin in the Ville, Pumpkin Vine and festival vendors.
A festival map is available to help visitors plan their trips and locate attractions throughout the festival area.
No-parking restrictions will be in effect Sept. 23-27 on West Church Street from North Chestnut Street to North Gardner Street and on West South Street from South Chestnut Street to South Gardner Street.
Residents and visitors are asked not to block fire hydrants, intersections, sidewalks or alleyways. The Barnesville Police Department also reminded residents not to place chairs, cones or other objects in streets or alleyways to reserve parking spaces.
Several additional restrictions will be in place Saturday, Sept. 26, for the Giant Pumpkin Parade. No parking will be permitted on East Main Street and North Chestnut Street during the parade.
State Route 800 south into Barnesville and State Route 147 east into Barnesville will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Several village parking lots will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, for festival setup and will remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 27. The affected lots are the East Main Lot between Cheffy Drugs and Avenues of Barnesville and the West Main Parking Lot next to Blue Moon Tavern. Vehicles should be moved from the lots before setup begins.
Additional street closures will be in effect Monday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 27. West Main Street will be closed from Chestnut Street to Gardner Street, North Broadway Street will be closed from West Church Street to South Broadway Street, and South Broadway Street will be closed from North Broadway Street to West South Street.
Police are asking drivers to use caution around increased pedestrian traffic, yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and follow posted signs. Drivers should also safely pull over when approaching emergency vehicles using flashing lights and sirens.
