HOCKING COUNTY, Ohio (AVC News) — Torrential rain over the weekend has caused significant flooding in western Hocking County, affecting parts of Perry, Salt Creek, Benton and Laurel townships.
First responders continue to conduct search and rescue operations in isolated areas, where several structures remain partially underwater or cut off by floodwaters. Multiple water rescue teams have been activated to assist with the response.
Water levels are receding in many areas, but numerous roadways remain underwater. Hocking County EMA are urging residents to use caution while traveling and avoid flooded areas when possible.
A temporary shelter is in place at Hocking Hills Elementary School, located at 19197 State Route 664 South for residents displaced by the flooding.
No injuries have been reported.
Residents are reminded not to drive through high water. Road conditions, including closures and other affected state routes, are being updated through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s OHGO website.
