Margene L. Ryan, 98 of Zanesville

Margene L. Ryan, 98 of Zanesville, died, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville. She was born Monday, May 21, 1928, in East Fultonham, the daughter of John E. McKeown and Ada A. (Cherry) McKeown. She married Donald H. Ryan on Saturday, February 25, 1950, and was a lifelong dedicated member of St. Nicholas Church, where she sang in the choir, and was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella.

She retired from the J.C. Penny Company following over 25 years of service. Margene was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, who greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Margene had the distinct honor of giving birth to four sets of twins.

She was an avid card player, especially euchre. Margene taught swimming lesions, and Red Cross Lifeguard Training. Margene, along with her husband, served as Physical Education Teachers with the St. Nicholas School System. They enjoyed running, roller blading, and were very active together. She also enjoyed art, and painting was her hobby.

Margene is survived by seven children, Kristine Pease, Kathleen (Tony) Payton, Theresa (John) Baughman, Timothy (Cathy) Ryan, Holly (Gerd) Schwindt, Mark (Debbie) Ryan, and Cynthia (Royal) Courtain; one son-in-law, Robert Beach; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild

In addition to her parents, Margene was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ryan; two daughters, Molly Ryan who was a twin to Holly, and Patricia Beach, and one son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Charmaine Ryan.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Hillis Combs Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Monday, September 21, 2026, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Donald Abii as celebrant.
