BYESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — The Byesville Police Department is warning residents about a potentially dangerous over-the-counter supplement being sold locally under the brand name “Buzzers – Baja Rush.”

According to police, officers and EMS recently responded to a life-threatening medical emergency in the village involving a person who experienced severe respiratory failure after consuming the product.

First responders were able to revive the individual after administering Narcan, also known as naloxone, according to the police department.

The product is packaged in metallic green and yellow foil sachets containing green tablets. It is marketed as “BUZZERS – Baja Rush” or “Proprietary Botanical Extract.”

Police say the packaging claims the product contains ingredients such as Cat’s Claw, but third-party laboratory testing reportedly found no standard botanical compounds. Instead, the testing identified unidentified synthetic chemicals.

The department says the response to Narcan raises concerns that the product contains undisclosed synthetic compounds capable of causing respiratory depression and a potentially fatal overdose.

Products marketed as “herbal” or “all-natural” may be sold at smoke shops, gas stations and convenience stores, according to police.

Police are urging anyone who has purchased “Buzzers” or similar grey-market herbal tablets not to consume them.

Residents should also be aware of potential overdose symptoms, including slow or stopped breathing, unresponsiveness, pinpoint pupils and blue or pale lips or fingernails.

Anyone who suspects an overdose should call 911 immediately and administer Narcan if it is available.

The Byesville Police Department also notes that Ohio’s Good Samaritan Law provides immunity from arrest for certain minor drug possession offenses for people seeking emergency medical assistance during an overdose.
