COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — The AEP Ohio Foundation has provided $175,000 to support American Red Cross disaster relief operations in communities across central and southern Ohio affected by recent severe weather.
Of the total grant, $25,000 is designated for the American Red Cross East Central Ohio Chapter to support ongoing response and recovery efforts in communities impacted by recent flooding and severe weather.
The grant was announced Thursday as communities across the region continue recovery efforts.
Tonya Craft, regional chief executive officer for the American Red Cross Central and Southern Ohio Region, said the additional funding will help the organization provide assistance to residents affected by disasters.
“We were delighted to learn that AEP Ohio Foundation chose to further strengthen its support with an additional $25,000 grant on top of the $150,000 we received just last week,” Craft said.
Craft said partnerships with corporate supporters help the Red Cross provide relief to disaster victims.
The foundation’s contribution complements AEP Ohio’s ongoing efforts to restore power and assist with broader disaster response operations throughout the region.
“We know recovering doesn’t end when the floodwaters recede and we recognize the challenges our customers are facing right now,” said Renee Shumate, external affairs manager for AEP Ohio. “That’s why we’re committed to supporting them throughout the recovery process.”
Shumate said AEP Ohio’s partnership with organizations such as the Red Cross allows the company to provide additional assistance to communities while its crews continue working to restore power.
The funding comes as residents in parts of eastern and southeastern Ohio continue dealing with the aftermath of severe storms and repeated flooding.
