One Dead After Early Morning House Fire In Guernsey County













GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio (AVC News) — One person died after a residential structure fire early Thursday morning in Oxford Township.

Fairview Fire crews were dispatched at 4:06 a.m. after a power company received a smart meter alert and sent personnel to investigate. Power company employees arrived and found the home fully involved before calling 911.

Fairview Engine 95-3, Engine 95-4 and Squad 95-2 responded with seven personnel. Crews arrived at 4:18 a.m. and found the residence fully involved and already collapsed.

During firefighting operations, crews recovered the body of a deceased occupant from the home.

Automatic and mutual aid was provided by the Barnesville, Old Washington and Quaker City fire departments. A total of 14 firefighters from the responding agencies assisted at the scene.

Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives, Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators and power company personnel also assisted with the response.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office and Fairview Fire Department.

Fairview Fire officials said they will not release the name, address or other information related to the investigation or the identity of the family involved.

The department expressed its condolences to the family during this difficult time.
