ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Coburn United Methodist Church is hosting a blood drive to help combat a national blood supply crisis.
According to the American Red Cross, blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low including the critically needed type-O positive blood. The shortage has left the Red Cross with less than a one-day national supply of O-positive blood, the most commonly transfused blood type.
The Red Cross has begun limiting distributions of type O blood to individual hospitals as it works to ensure supplies remain available for patients facing critical, life-threatening emergencies.
Organizers are encouraging eligible donors of all blood types to participate. The Red Cross said maintaining a stable blood supply depends on volunteer donors giving regularly.
Coburn United Methodist will host their blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at the Wilson Center Gym, 3618 Maple Ave.
Those who donate blood will receive Hello Kitty collectible merchandise, while supplies last. Every blood donation can help provide lifesaving care to patients in need.
