ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — A Zanesville man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary in connection with an attack on a woman inside her home.
Myron Tuttle, 45, appeared before Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Judge Kelly Cottrill, pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced immediately afterward.
The case stems from an incident in August, when Zanesville police were dispatched to a residence following a disturbance. Dispatchers reported that a female caller was crying, while a man who reportedly had cut himself could be heard in the background.
When officers arrived, Tuttle answered the door. Police found the female victim visibly upset and still on the phone with dispatch. Tuttle initially told officers the woman had cut him, but an investigation led by Detective Bryan Ruff determined the cuts on Tuttle’s arms were self-inflicted.
According to the investigation, Tuttle had been drinking and became agitated following an argument. The woman asked him to leave, but he refused. Tuttle pushed her, grabbed her by the shirt as she tried to escape through the front door and pulled her back inside.
He then held her down and strangled her, making it difficult for her to breathe.
After learning the woman had called 911, Tuttle allegedly picked up a knife and began cutting himself. He then told the victim, “If I’m going to jail, you’re going to jail.”
Prosecutors said Tuttle has two prior domestic violence convictions.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Warren Edwards handled the case and said Ohio law recognizes the importance of protecting a person’s home, adding that those who violate a home in Muskingum County will face significant prison time.
