CALDWELL, Ohio (AVC News) — Verizon officials provided the Noble County Commissioners with an update on the company’s ongoing internet expansion project during a recent meeting.
Di Stinson and Kevin Leacke, a Verizon project manager, along with Kim Gaffney Corriher and Tom Reid of Reid Consulting, provided the update during a Zoom presentation.
The expansion is being funded through a $2,650 grant originally obtained by Frontier and later taken over by Verizon. Once completed, the project is expected to provide internet service to approximately 300 homes in Noble County.
“Our audit is complete and construction is ongoing,” Stinson told commissioners.
Officials said approximately 80 locations cannot currently be reached as part of the project.
Leacke said Verizon is removing copper lines in areas where internet service has been installed but will leave the copper lines in place at locations the company cannot reach.
Commissioners also discussed a potential grant for improvements to the county’s wastewater infrastructure.
During a separate Zoom meeting earlier in the week, Jonathan Bernstein, Steve Malon and Kate Courtright of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency discussed grant requirements with commissioners, Chad Sule and Brad Gifford of Veregy Inc.
Gifford plans to apply for funding through the Ohio EPA’s Water Pollution Control Fund. The proposed project would replace all six existing lift stations in the county and upgrade the lift station serving Lashley Addition near Seneca Lake.
Ed McKee of Noble County Emergency Services told commissioners that income from insurance, Medicare and Medicaid is slowly beginning to come in after a lengthy delay.
McKee also said the county has temporarily discontinued use of its diesel ambulance because of the cost of fuel.
Commissioners informed County Engineer Todd Coss that Hollis-Clark Road in Olive Township has been reopened. Township trustees have been notified of the road’s reopening.
Jeff Arnold also discussed questions regarding the senior citizens levy with the commissioners.
