CALDWELL, Ohio (AVC News) — Two recent Shenandoah High School graduates have earned American FFA degrees, one of the organization’s highest honors, at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
The Noble County Commissioners recently recognized Riley and Lane for the achievement, congratulating the graduates on their accomplishments and representation of the county.
More than 5,800 American FFA degrees were awarded this year among a national organization with more than 1 million members.
The degree recognizes FFA members for their academic and professional achievements and commitment to agricultural education. To qualify, members must have earned at least $10,000 or earned $2,000 and worked at least 2,500 hours outside of class through a supervised agricultural experience program.
Recipients receive a gold American FFA key and certificate.
Shenandoah FFA adviser Matt Wentworth said the award recognizes members who demonstrate dedication to developing leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
Wentworth said that, to his recollection, only two previous Shenandoah students, Dale Minho and Steven Wentworth, had received the honor. He and Eric Van Fleet expressed pride in Riley’s and Lane’s accomplishments.
Commissioner Brian Carter praised the graduates for their leadership and positive representation of Noble County.
During the meeting, commissioners also reminded residents that Noble County’s Veterans Day services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the east-side courthouse esplanade.
The program begins with a parade at 10 a.m. Jeff Minosky will serve as the featured speaker, presenting a history of Noble County veterans spanning 250 years.
