Suspect of Portage County Shooting Arrested in Guernsey County

ATWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AVC News) — An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot inside a residence in Portage County on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and a suspect was arrested in Guernsey County.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received a 911 call about a possible shooting at a residence on State Route 183 in Atwater Township at approximately 9:20 a.m. Detectives responding to the scene found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She later died from her injuries.

Authorities identified the victim as Alice Tully, according to information shared by her family. Family members said Tully was a Girl Scout and was scheduled to participate in a transition-to-adulthood ceremony Thursday, Oct. 22.

Detectives obtained a description of the suspect and vehicle, prompting authorities to issue a lookout alert. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s aviation unit assisted in the search. The suspect and vehicle were stopped on Interstate 77 southbound in Guernsey County. The suspect was identified, arrested without incident and taken to the patrol’s Cambridge headquarters.

Portage County detectives later questioned the suspect, who declined to answer questions or provide a statement. After extradition proceedings, the suspect was returned to Portage County and booked into the county jail.

Authorities said the suspect has been charged in connection with Tully’s death. The suspect has not been named at this time.
