Guernsey County Library Coordinator Expands Outreach Through Social Media

Promoting the library and all the wonderful activities it creates is a major part of Ashley Allen’s position as Marketing & Outreach Coordinator. A recent graduate of Ohio University where she received her Master’s Degree, Ashley began her career with the Guernsey County Library in August, 2026.

While at OU, Ashley did an internship at the Athens Library System where she worked with social media exposure for promotion of programs and events, and shared what the library provides and does for the community. When she saw the posting for the Guernsey County Library position, Ashley felt everything was aligning since she was no stranger to Cambridge having graduated from Muskingum University in 2024.

In a short time, Ashley has been able to get to know so many people who are genuinely passionate about not only our libraries, but the community. A part of the position she especially enjoys is trying to reach as many demographics as possible through social media. Recently she has launched a TikTok account for the library to explore short form video content to promote events, and provide educational information about libraries in an entertaining manner so the library will appeal to wider audiences.

Outreach includes their Bookmobile, home deliveries, educational programs, partnerships with the schools, and more. Ashley has a busy position and is always planning something.

The Bookmobile is the floating branch of the library. Sharon, an outstanding bookmobile driver, travels to nearly every corner of Guernsey County each month. The Bookmobile visits over a dozen schools in the county, apartment complexes, and makes public stops so the entire community can utilize it easily. They also do home deliveries for those unable to come to the library in person. Everyone should have access to the library.

Educational programs take place at the three physical branches of the library: Crossroads, Downtown, and Byesville. The library also partners in programs with Salt Fork’s Eco-Discovery Center, where they do monthly programs for families with kids. Recently, they were at the Guernsey County Fair all week promoting events, sharing information about the library, and doing a card drive. The goal of Outreach is to bring the programs to the patrons wherever they happen to be.

Marketing is a one-man-band as this time – Ashley! She runs the social medias – Facebook and TikTok with Instagram coming soon. She updates the website, the TVs that play at the different locations, and promotes all the programs that the teams put together. Her goal is to help make the programs as successful as they can be and help patrons access resources that the library can provide for them.

Communicating information about the library to the public is a large part of her job by making graphics and flyers, networking with individuals in the community, and working closely with the staff to make sure she is accurately portraying the library. She recently developed monthly calendars of programs by age category (adults, teens, children, outreach) that work with their quarterly newsletter.

When Ashley has some free time, she enjoys reading Literary Fiction, and spending time with her nephews and dogs. Currently, she is also planning a backyard wedding for June.

Ashley enjoys her work at the library and puts her heart into designing programs that will be enjoyable for many members of the community. “I love the people, both the ones I work with and those I work for, the patrons.”
