Dave Saft, 75 of Cambridge

David ‘Dave’ Keith Saft, age 75, of Cambridge, passed on Wednesday, September 16 with his wife and children at his side.
Dave was born on November 20, 1950, in Caldwell, Ohio to the late Albert and Evelyn (Eddy) Saft. He was one of six children. The family settled on a small farm just outside of Cambridge, where Dave ultimately chose to build his own home and life. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1969 and married his wife, Peggy, on May 9, 1970. Not long after, Dave was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1970 to 1972. Part of his service was spent in Germany as a staff photographer and his son, Tracy, was born there in 1971. Dave recalled those memories fondly and proudly for the rest of his life. Following his time in the service, Dave worked for American Electric Power (AEP), retiring after 37 years. He also served as a Cambridge Township Trustee for several years and two terms as a Guernsey County Commissioner.
Dave was active, liked to keep busy, and was known to be a man of many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed all things automotive – cars, trucks, repainting, repairing, customizing, etc. He liked operating both heavy equipment and farm equipment, riding 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers, tractors (especially classic), breaking, riding, and showing horses, coon hunting, fishing, athletics, spending time outdoors and in the garage, and more. Dave loved sharing these interests and activities with his friends and family.
Dave was known for being a hard worker, reliable, honest, outgoing, a jack of all trades, a story teller, someone who cared for the best interests of the community, putting his family first, a strong presence, a proud veteran, and most of all absolutely hilarious and fun. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He took pride in his work, service to the community, service to the country, and in his family. He fit a lot of life into his 75 years and he truly lived.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; his son, Tracy (Shelly); his daughter, Tricia (Eric); and two grandchildren, Landon and Bristol Saft. He is also survived by many family members, many friends, and his little dog, Patches. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Saft; a brother, Dale (Carolyn); his father- and mother-in-law; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Private services were held on Sunday, September 20 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home. Graveside services, with military honors, were held at Center Cemetery where Dave was laid to rest near his parents and other family members.
