Barnesville Hospital Receives Nearly $500,000 In New Patient Monitoring Equipment

BARNESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital has received nearly $500,000 in new telemetry equipment for its Emergency Room and Medical-Surgical units, with additional equipment planned for the hospital’s Operating Room and Progressive Care units.

The new telemetry monitoring system continuously measures patients’ heart rhythms, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen levels, providing medical staff with real-time information.

The equipment is designed to help care for patients experiencing chest pain, heart arrhythmias, strokes, blood clots and fluid in the lungs. It also includes alarms that can alert staff to sudden, potentially life-threatening changes.

The monitors feature decision-support tools, including smart alarms, predictive algorithms and sepsis alerts, to help clinical staff identify and respond to critical conditions more quickly. The portable design also allows staff to monitor multiple patients and respond to changes as needed.

The project was funded through year-end giving campaigns in 2024 and 2025, along with grants received in 2025 from The Foundation for a Better World and The Antero Foundation.

The hospital received $243,153 in combined donations and grants from individuals, families and local businesses to help purchase the new cardiac monitoring technology. Contributions included a substantial donation from Dr. Pratap Souri and memorial donations made in honor of Clara Groves and John Sawvel.

“Investments like this strengthen our ability to provide high-quality care close to home,” said Judy Bruno, president and CEO of Barnesville Hospital. “We’re grateful to the donors, families, businesses and foundations who helped make this project possible and continue to support the Hospital.”

Adam Hoffman, president of The Foundation for a Better World, said the equipment will help expand the level of monitoring available to patients in the Barnesville area.

“We’re glad to support WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital in bringing that capability to the patients who live there,” Hoffman said.

The hospital said the new technology will strengthen its ability to provide advanced patient monitoring and care locally.
