COLUMBUS, Ohio (AVC News) — Veterans and active-duty military members will receive a year-round 25% discount on overnight camping and rentals at Ohio State Parks beginning in November.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced the new discount Nov. 4. Gov. Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 233 into law in September, establishing the discount as a way to recognize the service and sacrifices of veterans and active-duty military personnel.
The discount applies to most services offered at Ohio State Parks, excluding food and merchandise. Eligible individuals must present valid military identification at check-in.
“Ohio is proud to honor the men and women who have served our country, as well as those who are currently serving,” DeWine said. “Offering year-round discounts at our state parks is one small way we can show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice. We want our veterans and active-duty military members and their families to enjoy Ohio’s great outdoors.”
ODNR Director Mary Mertz said the department is honored to welcome veterans and service members to Ohio’s public lands and provide opportunities for them to spend time with family and enjoy the outdoors.
The discount is available for new reservations only and cannot be combined with other offers. The veteran or service member must be present and an occupant of the campsite, cabin, lodge room or rental facility. Additional documentation of military service may be requested.
Ohio veterans who are permanently disabled also remain eligible for free camping through a separate state program.
