Ada Myers Connects with the Community

As Assistant Director at the Guernsey County District Public Library, Ada Myers has many roles as she contributes to the library and also the community in a variety of ways. Although she has worked in public libraries since 2006, she began working here in 2022 after an earlier visit to Cambridge to see Dickens Victorian Village, which she still enjoys.

When she saw an opening for Assistant Director at GCDPL, she immediately applied. She explained, “It was one of the best professional decisions that I have ever made as I love this library system and the community it serves.”

Ada oversees the Bargaining Unit for Staff members including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating a team of 16. She also attends to the day-to-day duties involved in running the Downtown Branch.

She represents the library in the community in many ways. She is an active member of multiple Boards of Directors including the Guernsey County Visitors & Convention Bureau, Cambridge Main Street, and OSU Extension Advisory Committee. Her participation in the Dickens Victorian Village Grand Opening Day Planning Committee has moved their Reception to the Downtown Branch, so handy to the Courthouse festivities.

Often Ada partners with businesses and groups for programs and hosts a table at various fairs and festivals. She also represents GCDPL in the larger world at conferences and conventions hosted throughout the state and beyond.

Many recognize her as the person who oversees and implements all the Adult Library Programs. She loves planning programs and has particularly enjoyed organizing the Ohio Author Festival. This program has grown consistently year after year as it’s a chance to meet Ohio authors and hear their stories.

She strives to help guide the staff in developing fun, exceptional, enriching, and educational programs for all age groups, genres, and demographics. “The best part, they are always free!” You can easily see how much Ada enjoys being at the library.

When Ada isn’t at the library, she naturally enjoys reading. Actually, all of the people working at the library seem to enjoy a good book. They seem to feel it’s a necessary side effect of their occupation!

Ada also loves to cook and enjoys spending time with her family – her daughter and granddaughter receive a lot of her spare time. However, their Golden Retriever, Tucker, is a high maintenance fella. Tucker is considered a second child by Ada and her husband. They spend a fair amount of time playing with, walking, and feeding that special family addition.

If your group would like to learn more about the library, give Ada a call at 740-432-5946 or email her at Ada@gcdpl.org. Ada has been committed to getting the library involved in the community and enjoys participating in area events.
