ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AVC News) — As cooler temperatures begin to arrive across the region, older Ohioans who need help paying their home heating bills may be eligible for assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Area Agency on Aging, Region 9 are reminding residents that HEAP provides assistance to eligible households to help manage home energy costs.
The program is available to Ohioans who meet income requirements, including households with income at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for households of up to seven members and 60% of State Median Income for households of eight or more members.
HEAP benefits are applied directly to a customer’s utility or bulk fuel bill.
Older Ohioans can contact their local Area Agency on Aging office for assistance gathering required documents and completing an application.
Applicants will need copies of their most recent utility bills, a list of all household members including birth dates and Social Security numbers, proof of income for the past 30 days.
